Our BASE Program

Research has shown that the sense of balance, or vestibular system, affects brain processing and sensory integration. Activities that involve balance can have a significant effect on students’ information processing and thus their academics. That’s why we include sensory integration activities within our classroom to prompt our students to become efficient learners and improve academic performance. Plus, it’s fun!

Benefits of the BASE program

The BASE program’s combination of activities and information encourages students to view learning as a fun and exciting process. Research shows that sensory activities and other hands-on learning methods build stronger nerve connections in the brain’s pathways and improve students’ abilities.

Visual Processing

Sensory activities teach students the importance of close observation and enhance visual processing and memory.

Class Engagement

Education led by students and guided by teachers keeps students engaged, prompts in-class collaboration, and develops social skills.

Problem-Solving Skills

Hands-on learning leads students to complete more complex tasks, thus improving their cognitive growth, motor dexterity, and problem-solving skills.

Academic Performance

The positive academic results and reinforcements that the BASE program provides improve student academic success and confidence.

Therapeutic Listening

We’ve seen wonderful results from the BASE Program in combination with Therapeutic Listening, where students listen to enhanced music as a part of an in-clinic and/or home therapy program. Therapeutic Listening is an evidence-based auditory intervention intended to support individuals who experience challenges with sensory processing, listening, attention, and communication.
It is the goal of Legacy Christian Academy to meet the educational, physical & nutritional, therapeutic and spiritual needs of the students

Success with BASE

Alex has been in foster care since he was 7 months old and resides in Family Ministries residential care program. From an early age, he was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and Sensory Processing Disorder and often gets easily frustrated, anxious, and explosive.
The BASE program doesn’t just help our kids academically but also improves students’ balance, posture, and core. These are the very things that challenge Alex each day and contribute to his ADHD and SPD. The BASE program helped Alex improve on his Balametrics as he went from barely being able to sit on the exercise ball to standing on a BOSU ball while multitasking. The program also helps Alex with his auditory processing and sensory therapy skills. These activities and techniques help Alex to regulate his body and behavior as well as multitask successfully. Alex is now more respectful, obedient, and academically successful than before he began the program.
